How hands-on experience at major tournaments shapes SportLoMo

SportLoMo’s work with Rugby Europe goes beyond software delivery. In 2026, members of the SportLoMo team were on-site at Rugby Europe Sevens tournaments in Andorra, Hamburg and Split, working alongside competition teams and seeing first-hand how the platform performs under real tournament pressure.

    That experience matters.

International tournaments move quickly. Fixtures are tightly scheduled, results must be processed immediately, rankings and knockout stages can change within minutes and organisers need accurate information available across multiple teams, officials and digital channels.

Being on the ground gives our team something that cannot be replicated from a development office: a clear view of how administrators, officials and event staff actually use the system when competition is live.

Live Stats tested in real competition

One of the important developments during the 2026 Rugby Europe tournament programme was the live use of SportLoMo’s Live Stats module.

The module was used during the Hamburg tournament, giving the SportLoMo team the opportunity to observe the workflow in a live international competition environment. Feedback and practical observations could then be incorporated quickly before the next tournament in Split.

    68 matches across three days

The Rugby Europe Sevens tournament in Split provides a good example of the operational demands involved.

Across three days, 68 matches were managed, with approximately 22 minutes between kick-offs.

The SportLoMo platform supported the progression of the tournament while Live Stats captured match activity and helped distribute live information through connected APIs.

For competition organisers, the important point is not simply that data is being recorded. It is that fixtures, results, standings and match information remain connected as the tournament progresses.

Software that event staff can use quickly

A particularly useful test of any tournament system is how easily new users can operate it.

During the Split tournament, staff from the Croatian Rugby Union were introduced to the Live Stats module and were able to begin using it within approximately five minutes. They then operated the system for the final eight matches. For SportLoMo, that was an important measure of usability.

    Tournament Management in action

At the centre of Rugby Europe’s Sevens events is SportLoMo’s Tournament Management Module, managing the competition around every match. Teams can be placed into pools, round-robin fixtures generated and scheduled, results recorded and standings calculated automatically. As each stage is completed, teams progress into the correct ranking or knockout fixtures until final tournament positions are confirmed -reducing the need for administrators to rebuild competition structures manually between rounds.

Why being on-site improves the platform

Working directly at tournaments helps our team understand the small operational details that can make a significant difference during live competition. Those lessons feed directly back into product development.

And while this particular Insight focuses on international rugby, the principles apply much more widely. Tournament management, live scoring and connected competition data are relevant across rugby, volleyball, basketball, soccer, netball and many other team and individual sports.
