Mayo-based software company Sports Manager (also known as SportLoMo) this month agreed €500,000 in funding from private investors and Enterprise Ireland.
SportLoMo, a software platform for amateur sport, is used by sports administrators to manage league competitions & player data for 1 million people. The company is better recognised in Ireland as Sports Manager.
Seamus Kyne, CEO, says “SportLoMo has largely stayed under the radar as we have concentrated on ‘land-grabbing’ many of the top sports in Ireland. We have sports users in the UK, USA and United Emirates but most of our sports are based in Ireland and Northern Ireland”. “We have proven our software in Ireland and are now ready to focus on expanding internationally”. This latest investment will facilitate this.
Rugby is one of their biggest sports. All the domestic rugby in Ireland is managed on the platform – It is used by the IRFU and all five rugby provinces. Other big users are Ireland Hockey, Dublin GAA, Cork GAA, 17 Soccer leagues and Netball NI. Irish Volleyball and Irish Basketball are also customers.
SportLoMo, the name is an abbreviation of Sport-Local-Mobile, enables sports administrators to manage all their administration online. Such as game schedules, collecting results, team sheets, management of match officials, players, referees, and websites. The company has the largest ‘stable’ of sports websites in Ireland. Its latest website to launch is Basketball Ireland.
“We provide our software at low cost to cash-strapped amateur sports organisations. We can do this as we leverage the interest in their sport with advertising, sponsorship and media sales to make up the shortfall.” explains Kyne.
The data is managed by sports administrators, match officials and referees. Last year data was managed for 90,000 games, delivering 80 million web page views to 320,000 unique monthly visitors.
Vivienne Lee, co-founder says “With this new funding we plan to grow our staff numbers over the next 6 months. Our first task is to ramp up employment quickly over the next few months. We have an immediate need for software developers to join us in Mayo.”
The outdoors and the quality of life in the West of Ireland may be attractive to a number of developers.
